Business Project Manager Career Paths Begin at Florida Technical College

Let’s begin by playing a game. Let’s see which of us can come closest to guessing how many people out of every thousand, when asked what job they would most like to do, will say “Business Project Manager.” You go first.

HINT: Whatever number you pick, I’m going to pick the next lower number. Even if you pick “one,” the odds are probably still in my favor.

Think about it, when was the last time you heard anyone say that they wanted to train to become a project manager?

What Is a Business  Project Manager?

Does everyone understand what we need to do next?

The elusiveness of the answer is part of the reason people seldom seek a career in project management. Sometimes Business Project Manager is a defined position on an organizational chart. Many times it is an assigned responsibility to a person with an entirely different title. The larger the business, the more likely there will be at least one person with the actual title of Project Manager, but that does not mean that he or she will manage all company projects.

What Is Project Management?

It is much easier to define project management. “A project is a unique, transient endeavor, undertaken to achieve planned objectives, which could be defined in terms of outputs, outcomes or benefits. A project is usually deemed to be a success if it achieves the objectives according to their acceptance criteria, within an agreed timescale and budget.”

Do you see what I mean?

  • Project management is creating, implementing, and overseeing projects that meet the goals and objectives of his or her company.
  • Project management includes identifying all of the tasks and responsibilities of the employees involved in the project, assigning those tasks and managing the methodology and process to achieve the desired outcome.

The Big Advantages of Project Management

A position is only a title. Successful project management is accomplishment. Within a business successful project management is a highly visible element of reaching goals which are central to the growth of the business. Not surprisingly, responsible and successful project managers tend to be recognized for their contributions – often with promotions with greater responsibilities. Because of this, skilled project managers generally enjoy steady career growth and advancement.
