It would be absurd to think that everyone who works in the field of allied healthcare loves their job (even though all the people in pictures advertising careers in healthcare are smiling). It may be true that most people in healthcare really do love their jobs. But there is nothing that prevents some people from ending up in the wrong type of job, even in healthcare.
It’s not the objective of tech schools in Florida to simply train a person for a career in allied health. It’s our objective to train the right people for the right career. We understand that not every student has determined the kind of job they want, even though they know in what field they would like that job to be. It is important, therefore, that students understand the range of jobs available and which they are most inclined to prefer once they graduate.

Florida Technical College offers diploma programs for careers as patient care technicians, medical billing and coding specialists, and medical assistant technicians. Each of those categories includes its own variety of potential jobs.
FTC also offers associate degrees for careers as medical assistants and medical administrative assistants, as well as a bachelor degree in Allied Health Management.
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Standards continues to project job growth in the field of healthcare despite declines in many other occupations. The BLS Occupation Outlook Handbook identifies 17 different occupations in Health Diagnosing and Treating, 15 in Health Technologies and Technicians and eight in Healthcare Support. One excellent way to determine the best fit before enrolling in an FTC program is to take a personality profile test whose results will point you in the right direction. One of the leading tests is the Keirsey Temperament Sorter. The sorter identifies each person by one of four temperament types. It then identifies each person’s bet job fit, even within a particular career type.

Artisans. These people tend to prefer working in emergency care or as medical technicians.

Rationals prefer jobs that are more analytical, such as administration.
High school grads can get a jumpstart on earning power by following a diploma or associate degree program. Mid-career workers who have lost their jobs due to downsizing are taking training to enter these fields and those who are looking to advance an existing career can train so they can move up in the fields of healthcare.
