While there were countless marketing trends that shaped the industry over the course of the past year, the following 5 were certainly worth the mention.

So, without further ado, here are the top 5 most influential marketing trends of 2015.

1.) Transition to Total Transparency

Say so long to the days of slimy marketing tactics and deals that are too good to be true. Ok, not quite, but you get our drift. In 2015, customers demanded greater transparency from organizations and genuine brands provided it. With a greater emphasis on real rather than perceived value, in 2015 companies were encouraged to be transparent in their intentions and interactions, and for those that obliged, the rewards were certainly worth it.

2.) Expansion of Opportunities on Social

There is no doubt about it, social media was a pervasive marketing tactic well before the start of 2015. However, throughout the course of the year, major improvements and expansions were made in this domain. For example, Facebook introduced a “see first” option on pages along with the option to integrate Instagram ads directly through Facebook’s advertising platform. In addition, during 2015, we also saw an expansion of marketing opportunities on Snapchat as well as video-streaming channels such as Periscope and Meerkat.

3.) More Maximized Mobile Strategies

If there was one clear takeaway for marketers during 2015, it was that mobile was king. In fact, according to the Pew Research Center, nearly two-thirds of Americans are now smartphone owners, and these numbers are only expected to increase. From cell phones to tablets, to even wearable gadgets and everything in-between, the evolution of mobile is happening right now before our very eyes. As these technologies allow for a greater degree of personalization, marketing is likely to become even more personalized in the coming years as we continue to use our gadgets on the go.

 4.) Greater Emphasis on Storytelling

Storytelling might have been a buzzword in the marketing world during 2015, but for good reason. In 2015, marketers began to acknowledge the powers of successful storytelling. From increased brand awareness to strengthened customer relationships, storytelling was at the heart of marketing during 2015 and we’re not likely to see this change. In fact, experts predict that we are likely to see even more storytelling take place during 2016 and beyond.

5.) Holistic User Experience Across Channels

Long gone are the days of isolated social media channels. Sure, back in the day having a Facebook or Twitter account alone may have been sufficient for most organizations, but that simply was not the case in 2015. Instead, marketers developed a comprehensive and multi-channel experience for users. Integrating brand content and strategies across platforms, 2015 was a monumental year for the improvement of user experience. Rather than isolated content silos, businesses began to take a holistic approach to their marketing efforts in 2015.

What’s in store for 2016?

While no one may be able to predict the future with exact certainty, we’re likely to experience another incredible and groundbreaking year in the world of marketing. With the expansion of mobile technologies coupled with ever-evolving social media channels, 2016 will be quite the year.
