"Medical Assistant ranks among the fastest growing occupations of the next decade. Job prospects should be excellent." - U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics

Medical Assistants play an important role in our Healthcare system. Professionals in this field perform both administrative and clinical tasks to keep a medical office running smoothly. As a Medical Assistant you get to constantly interact with people in a pleasant, office environment and you have the satisfaction of providing direct care to patients and knowing your job helps others to live well.

Rising Demand for Skilled Medical Assistants

* Employment of medical assistants is expected to grow 34% from 2008 to 2018, much faster than the average for all occupations.

Healthcare is booming as technology spurs the growth of the health services industry and a growing and aging population increases the need for all manner of medical services. Medical Assistants are being increasingly utilized to assist in this growing industry. In fact, Medical Assisting is projected to be the Number One fastest growing occupation over the 2002-2012 period, according the Occupation Outlook Handbook - which makes now an exciting time for individuals looking to get trained and launch a steady and rewarding career in healthcare.

Professional Externship: Nothing Beats On-the-Job Experience

In addition to time spent in a classroom, students in this program will gain hands-on experience and clinical practice in a "real world" job setting through a supervised externship. During externship students will work in a real clinical setting and will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Clerical Functions
  • Venipuncture (drawing blood samples)
  • Collection of Specimens
  • Taking Vital Signs
  • Assistance with Office Exams
  • Basic First Aid and Bandaging
  • Charting Patients
  • Taking Vital Signs
  • Billing
  • Other Office Duties

In the classroom, students will be introduced to a number of vital, important health care skills. Students will study Medical Terminology, Cardiology, Surgical Procedures, Pharmacology, Lab Procedures, and Clinical Procedures.

Externships are an excellent way to build practical experience - and build your resume - before you graduate. Employers should be impressed with your level of comfort in a clinical setting when you graduate with hands-on, on-the-job experience.
