Entrepreneurship Program at Florida Technical College

Entrepreneurship may be one of the most elusive words to accurately define in the English language. In fact, it is not an English word at all. It is a “loanword” – a word borrowed from another language, French in this case, without translation. A second reason that it is hard to define is that it has been so often used and misused. Florida Technical College offers an entrepreneurship program for students who desire to become entrepreneur.

What Is an Entrepreneur?

An entrepreneur is a businessman, but not every businessman is an entrepreneur. Specifically, an entrepreneur is a person (man or woman) who organizes and operates businesses. He (or she) is typically characterized by:

  • having an innovative idea
  • having the vision to commercialize the idea
  • having a willingness to accept the risks involved with doing so

Why Are Entrepreneurs Important?

Entrepreneurs are, in one sense, like a play-calling quarterback. He can know precisely what to do and how to do it, but without some help, he’ll never gain a single yard. An entrepreneur births the idea, creates the business and directs the work of his employees so that, together, they are able to reach the goals he initially envisioned. A successful entrepreneur:

  • Creates jobs
  • Stimulates the economy, and, hopefully,
  • Achieves great financial success and personal satisfaction

I’m right. The numbers work!

The more successful an entrepreneur becomes, the more jobs he creates and the more money is pumped into the economy – and into his own bank account.

What Does It Take to Become an Entrepreneur?

In addition to having an idea, a vision, and the willingness to take risks, and in order to be successful, there are at least two more things it takes to become an entrepreneur:

  • A relentless desire to succeed, even against all odds
  • A keen understanding of business operations and principles

If You’ve Got the Desire, Florida Technical College Will Provide the Understanding.

Florida Technical College offers a bachelor degree program in Business-Entrepreneurship, Management and Marketing at each of our six campus locations in Central and South Florida.

All instructors have advanced business degrees, including two who are currently working on their PhDs. Several own or manage thriving companies, so they understand the day-to-day realities of what it takes to be successful.

The 144-week program includes courses in Business, Financial, Strategic, and Operations Management, Accounting, Advertising, Human Resources and Entrepreneurial Capital.

I did it!

The Entrepreneurial Capital course is especially important because entrepreneurs rarely have the funds to finance the commercialization of their idea and build a new company. FTC instructors will impart an understanding of how to find investors and gain their financial support to get a business up and running.

Other classes feature methods of corporate valuation, how to develop and implement sound business plans and how to manage what may be the most difficult challenge any business must face – change.
